How do you know that what they are saying is right?
The answer is that you don’t, and a large proportion of the replies given here – including many of those chosen as so-called “Best Answer” – range from mediocre to total crap! The answer is not to rely on replies given here. (Unless, of course, they are given by me – LOL)

You don’t. But before you give best answer you should look into the people who answered. If they’re a top contributor they’re probably not going to switch “I love you” to “I hate you.” If they answer many questions related to yours they may also be knowing that they’re saying, although I always look at the questions they ASK as well. If someone gives you a translation from English to French and then you look and see just last week they asked how to say, “My name is John” in French, then I wouldn’t trust their answer because they’re clearly not very capable in the language yet.

This isn’t limited to the “languages” section, or even Yahoo! Answers. On any message board, that’s the risk you run when asking a question.
As for your question as to what to do about it? Suck it up and move on with your life.

Online translation servers are not absolute, but they are a great tool to cross-examine the answers you receive. Don’t trust us strangers too much, you always have to do your own double-checking.

i would never use just one answer… normally bi-lingual people are more than happy to translate for you, ’cause it’s an easy 10 points. so you’ll get a few answers, the incorrect one will be thumbs down’d.

Translators are wrong. Buy an English-French French-English dictionary, or a Spanish-English or whatever language you want.

Go by what the majority says. You will get a smart @$$ answer from a few but most people give you a straight answer.
